This is a really good short documentary by Paul Johannessen, on life in Ishinomaki since the Tsunami. It gives a very real picture of what life is like for a lot of people after the Tsunami, and some of the very real problems that people are facing here.

What I especially like about it is that it’s so honest. It doesn’t try and paint a feel good fairy tale like image of Ishinomaki (like most non news pieces on TV), nor does it have an agenda (DONATE NOW!!). In fact, there is no narrative at all. It is a documentary in the purest sense of the word. Of course it’s edited so that it makes sense, but no words have been twisted, nor do they need to be.

I have seen many short docs made since the Tsunami, and have been asked to try and spread the word on them, but truth be told, I didn’t like a lot of them, which is why I didn’t really try too hard to get people to watch them.

But this is worth watching.
